The exchange of heated words between President Rodrigo Duterte and his nemesis Senator Leila De Lima has not yet ended. It even became worst after the President dropped De Lima’s name as the person which he referred during his speech at the 115th Police Service Anniversary held at Camp Crame as the lady senator criticizing his drive against illegal drugs.
During his address at Camp Crame, he revealed that the lady senator (De Lima) benefitted from narco money which she used to fund her campaign.
Duterte added that De Lima’s driver acts as the collector of drug money is at the same time her lover.
The President also mentioned that De Lima also paid the construction of her driver’s house with the use of the money from drug sources.
“You libeled me, you slandered me. I kept quite because you are a lady. Sumobra ka na. Well, maybe you won on the platform of human rights. Ang bugok namang Pilipino naniwala sa iyo. Yung bumoto lang din sa iyo. Hindi naman lahat,” Duterte said, In a statement on a news briefing at NAIA Terminal 3.
De Lima, on the other hand, reacted that the statement of Duterte was already a case of character assassination and cries foul over it. “I’m surprised why the President has to resort to that.” De Lima said.
“It’s plain and simple character assassination,” she added.
The ongoing conflict between the two long started when Senator De Lima is still the human rights commissioner under the Arroyo administration who led the investigation against Duterte for his involvement with vigilante killings in Davao City.
De Lima even told the press that she would prove that Duterte is involved with the so-called Davao Death Squad which is allegedly behind the killings of criminals in Davao City.
