Wednesday, July 20, General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa started the new assignment of the elite Special Action Force (SAF) of the PNP to man the New Bilibid Prison which contains convicted high-profile inmates involved in drugs, kidnapping, and several other cases. The move to change the guards is mainly because of the security issues of the said prison. It will now be under the protection of the highly skilled SAF from its previous BuCor (Bureau of Corrections) guards.
The PNP chief himself spearheaded the switch of guards and faced the VIPs of Bilibid, which includes robbery gang leader Herbert Colangco and the two big time drug lords Peter Co and Jaybee Sebastion. Dela Rosa grasped the chance to ask some straight to the point questions while they were temporarily kept inside the bus during the turnover ceremony.
Dela Rosa was seen talking to Colangco during the said turnover. The PNP Chief asked Colangco if he is a singer and if he could compose a song for him. Colangco directly said yes for both questions which are actually pointing to the concert and recordings held inside the Bilibid. Bato threw another question if it is Peter Co who acts as the big fish for drugs and he modestly answered yes. The tough-talking general was also seen talking to Sebastian and later asked if it is true that he is the “Mayor” inside the detainment, but Sebastian then denied it.
SAF took over because the BuCor were not able to control the situation which resulted to high profile inmates enjoying a good life inside the Bilibid. A total of 320 SAF troops were assigned while the former 200 BuCor guards will undergo training. Dela Rosa reminded the SAF troops to avoid accepting any bribe and stressed not to let the president down and most especially the Filipinos.
