President-elect Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President-elect Leni Robredo will be holding different venues for their upcoming inauguration on June 30, 2016. According to Robredo’s camp, Duterte’s team has informed them that the incoming president prefers to make it separately.
Duterte plans to celebrate ceremony in the Malacañang Palace as he wants to make it simple and save money at the same time for the government, finger food will be served before taking his oath and will address the nation on national TV for 5 minutes only to express his plans as the next president of the Philippines.
Duterte camp explained that the separate inauguration would even favor Robredo since they could invite more guests unlike if they will be holding one venue for the ceremony, which will allocate slots for the members of different governing bodies.
The camp of Robredo stated that they respect the decision of President-elect and will also prepare for their inauguration ceremony, the Inauguration of Duterte and Robredo will be the first in Philippine history where two highest officials of the country will take their oaths in separate venues.
Several issues and discussions were circulating online regarding the political relationship between Duterte and Robredo, seems not in good terms. Duterte did not even offer Robredo any cabinet position which the President-elect stated, “Non-committal ako diyan. You know why? I don’t want to hurt the feelings of Bongbong Marcos. He is my friend. That is the political reality”, Duterte said.
Duterte added, “Reconciliation need not come from an appointment. There is no compelling reason for me to accommodate the VP, I am sorry. Leni must understand that she belongs to the opposite side.”
