The tight race between Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Rep. Leni Robredo is continuously the centerpiece of the social media sites and news both local and international. Marcos was leading during the first day of vote counting which trends him to win the vice presidential election possibly. However, Robredo started to gain votes on the following day and currently dominating in the vice presidential race, which seemed an unexpected result for most of the Filipinos.
The citizens started to express their dismay over the continuous and steady growth of Robredo’s votes through the social media sites. Some have even accused the Liberal Party (LP) where President Benigno Aquino III is also a member, to have possibly maneuvered the votes.

This trending topic has also affected the two candidates who both have voiced out their opinions. Recently, Robredo claimed victory stating that their vote difference of 257,000 is going to let her win even without getting any votes from the remaining nine towns. On the other hand, Marcos stayed positive to his statements saying that he has already won through the support of the voters abroad.
Chairperson Henrietta de Villa said early announcements of victory was their strategy or psywar (psychological warfare). She also stated for better wait for the official announcements of NBOC (National Board of Canvassers) about the results. As of May 17 4:55 pm, Robredo is still leading with 14,022,939 votes, while Marcos has 13,803,842 according to Rappler 2016 Live Results.
