Change is coming, the Filipinos hope after a decade swamped by mediocrity, abuse of powers, selective opportunities and a cycle of insanity.
For a society effectively attain the change, it needs to start from within, and there is one essential trait that is vital to make that happen, a self-discipline.
Self-discipline, an ability of a person who understands how to overcome temptations and choose to pursue the right things over it.
The quality of a person that majority does not utterly possess, though considered as essential for the good of society.
According to an article from ‘Success Consciousness’ by Remez Sasson:
“Self-discipline is one of the most important and useful skills everyone should possess. This skill is essential in every area of life, and though most people acknowledge its importance, very few do something to strengthen it.”
Self-discipline is a good foundation that contributes notable impact to the entire community which progressively lead towards to a better one.
In our present state, the majority of Filipinos hoping for change, but only a few begin from themselves.
The Filipinos are known for being very hospitable, but lacks in discipline, something that some Filipinos are guilty off and here are some of the lists:
- Disregarding traffic rules, like jaywalking and beating the red light
- Parking in a tow away zone
- Smoking in a restricted place
Most Filipinos are aware of these simple regulations, but unfortunately, they just dismiss it, whether it is a city ordinance or rules of a particular area.
Nevertheless, self-discipline is something that Filipinos could learn, exercise and develop, by respecting the law and being mindful of abiding regulations.
Change may come but again must start from within to achieve it realistically.
