Despite protests from rights advocates and the Commission on Human Rights, Thony C. Halili, Mayor of Tanauan City, strictly enforcing the shame campaign to any suspect which may found involve in any illegal activities such as drugs, theft, rape, and any related crimes.
Recently, related to walk of shame campaign, seven arrested drug pushers paraded at Tanauan public market, In 2015, suspect for allegedly stealing cable wires and In 2014, suspect for stealing dried fish or ‘tuyo.’
Halili says that he will continue the walk of shame campaign to deter criminals which may help to maintain the safety and security of the city, which majority of the locals are supporting their mayor’s campaign.
However, for some rights advocates they view these as an act of bullying to small time poor criminals, they are urging the city mayor to implement the same procedure to high profile criminals like drug lords, corrupt local officials and such.
